FFXIV’s End On PS4 Is Approaching, So You Have Two Years To Save For A PS5

Final Fantasy XIV’s support for PlayStation 4 is approaching its end-of-life, with Square Enix announcing a two-year window for players to transition to PlayStation 5. During the Final Fantasy Fan Fest, producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that the development team has nearly reached the technical ceiling of what’s possible on the aging PS4 hardware, despite Sony’s assistance in bypassing certain limitations. This means players currently enjoying FFXIV on PS4 will need to upgrade to continue playing the long-running MMORPG beyond that deadline.

The announcement comes amid recent PlayStation 5 price increases, which have raised the barrier to entry for players considering a migration. The PS5 digital edition now costs $600—a $200 increase from the console’s original $500 launch price—while the premium PS5 Pro model reaches $900. Sony attributed the price hikes to current global economic conditions. For PS4 players of the decade-old MMORPG, the two-year timeline provides a window to budget for an upgrade, though the increased hardware costs add financial pressure to the transition.
