Pokémon Champions Introduces Smaller Roster to Recruit From

Pokémon Champions has introduced a limited-time optional recruitment roster featuring 31 competitively viable Pokémon, aimed at making roster building more accessible for players without Pokémon Home subscriptions. The curated selection excludes some prominent meta picks, notably Sneasler and Sinistcha, but complements the existing roster of 187 Pokémon from Set M-A that players can still recruit from.

The new roster coincides with the launch of Pokémon Champions 2026 Global Challenge, an online Video Game Championship (VGC) competition set to begin next week. The limited-time recruitment roster is designed to level the playing field for competitive players by providing guaranteed access to strong team options, reducing the need for extensive breeding or Pokémon Home transfers.

Players who participate in the Global Challenge and complete a minimum of three battles will receive a free Venusaur and 100 Quick Coupons as participation rewards. This incentivizes engagement in the competitive event while providing useful in-game resources.

The move reflects The Pokémon Company’s efforts to reduce barriers to entry for competitive play. By offering a curated selection of viable Pokémon without requiring subscription services, the game aims to attract more players to its esports ecosystem. However, the absence of certain meta-defining Pokémon suggests a balanced approach to avoid overpowering any single team archetype.
