GTA-Like Action Game Samson Is Coming to PS5, But We’re Much Less Excited Now

Samson: A Tyndalston Story is heading to PlayStation 5 in September, though the announcement comes with considerably tempered expectations following the game’s rocky PC launch earlier this year.

The action game, developed by Liquid Sword and led by Christofer Sundberg—known for his work on the Just Cause franchise—received a disappointing 51 rating on Metacritic for its PC release. This critical reception marks a significant departure from initial enthusiasm around the PS5 announcement, which had previously generated optimism about the title’s potential on console.

Sundberg addressed the troubled launch in a recent interview with The Game Business, acknowledging that the game “suffered from way too many bugs and a lack of polish” at release. However, he expressed confidence that the situation is improving, noting that the development team is “correcting it almost daily now” and that “the reception is starting to become more positive.”

Despite the rough start, Sundberg remains bullish about the game’s prospects, stating that “for us, it was just a must to get the game out. But any game released in this day and age is a success.” This suggests the developer views the PS5 release as an opportunity to present a more polished version of the game to a new audience, potentially capitalizing on console-exclusive optimization and a fresh launch window.

The September PS5 release represents a critical moment for Samson to rebuild player trust and critical perception. With substantial post-launch improvements in development and a platform known for its dedicated player base, the console version will need to demonstrate that the developer’s daily fixes have meaningfully addressed the technical issues that plagued the PC launch.
