This indie developer is making Titanfall 3 because EA won’t do it, and even in ‘pre-pre-pre alpha’ it’s one of the most fun shooters in years
An indie developer is creating ShatterRush, a spiritual successor to the Titanfall franchise, to fill what fans see as a major gap left by EA’s decision to cancel the series. In its earliest stages of development (“pre-pre-pre alpha”), ShatterRush is already attracting praise for delivering engaging first-person shooter gameplay, with early descriptions calling it “one of the most fun shooters in years.”
Titanfall remains a beloved franchise among FPS enthusiasts, with Titanfall 2 representing the series’ creative and critical peak. However, the 2016 release suffered commercially due to its market positioning between two major competitors: Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. This challenging launch window ultimately contributed to EA’s decision to shelve the franchise, disappointing fans who saw the cancellation as premature given the series’ critical success and devoted fanbase.
With EA showing no signs of developing an official Titanfall 3, indie developers like the creators of ShatterRush are stepping in to meet the ongoing demand for fast-paced, mech-based first-person shooter gameplay.
