Star Wars Echoes of the Empire comic wants you to visit Galaxy’s Edge
Marvel has released a new five-issue comic series designed to promote Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park attraction. Titled Star Wars: Echoes of the Empire, the series is written by acclaimed writer Ethan Sacks, who previously created the 2019 Galaxy’s Edge comic tie-in. The artwork is handled by Roi Mecado and Jethro Morales, with colors by Rachelle Rosenberg and lettering by Clayton Cowles.
The first issue has just been released. The comic spans multiple Star Wars eras through creative use of flashbacks and flashforwards, weaving together different periods of the Star Wars timeline in a cohesive narrative. Regardless of the timeline depicted in each panel, the series’ central purpose is clear: to generate excitement and anticipation for Galaxy’s Edge, particularly its main attraction, Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim.
The series represents Marvel and Disney’s strategy of using multimedia storytelling to promote the immersive theme park experience. By engaging Star Wars fans through comic narratives featuring characters and events tied to the Galaxy’s Edge setting, the companies aim to convert readers into visitors. This cross-media promotion approach leverages the existing fan base while introducing new audiences to the theme park through the accessible medium of comic books.
For Star Wars enthusiasts planning visits to Galaxy’s Edge, the series offers canonical storytelling that enriches the theme park experience while standing on its own as entertainment.
