Fresh off the news that Xbox is cutting Game Pass pricing, reports emerge of a new “Starter Edition” tier that bundles in a Discord sub

Microsoft and Discord are partnering on a new Xbox Game Pass tier called Game Pass Starter Edition, discovered through code leaks and Discord Preview images. The subscription tier will be bundled with Discord Nitro at $9.99 per month.

Game Pass Starter Edition will provide subscribers with access to over 50 games from the Game Pass library, 10 hours per month of Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the ability to earn Xbox Rewards points. Leaked artwork suggests the library will include titles such as Stardew Valley, Gears 5, Dishonored 2, Overcooked 2, Fallout 4, and Grounded.

However, this entry-level tier has a significant limitation: it will not support online multiplayer functionality on console, making it the first Game Pass subscription tier without this feature. Players will be unable to play multiplayer titles like Fallout 76, Deep Rock Galactic, Chivalry 2, and Among Us online, though single-player content remains accessible.

The announcement aligns with comments from newly-installed Xbox boss Asha Sharma, who previously hinted at a closer Discord collaboration. It also follows Xbox’s recent announcement of price cuts across existing Game Pass tiers and confirmation that new Call of Duty games will no longer launch day-one on the service. The exact availability date for Game Pass Starter Edition remains unclear.
