Former Sony exec opens up about the idea of PS5 games coming to PC on day one: “I don’t think that’s a good strategy for a platform holder like PlayStation”

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has expressed skepticism about releasing PS5 games on PC simultaneously with console launches. Speaking at the Powerhouse Museum’s ALT. Games Festival, Yoshida stated that day-and-date releases would not be “a good strategy for a platform holder like PlayStation.”

Yoshida, who retired from Sony in 2025 after serving as PlayStation boss and head of PlayStation Indies, offered nuanced commentary on the company’s PC strategy. While arguing against staggered releases, he clarified that he has not seen definitive evidence supporting reports that Sony is entirely abandoning PC releases. His comments suggest PlayStation may continue bringing games to PC, but likely with delayed release windows to protect console exclusivity and preserve the platform’s commercial advantage.

The remarks come amid broader industry discussion about multi-platform release strategies. As major publishers experiment with different approaches to reaching audiences across hardware, Yoshida’s perspective reflects traditional thinking that maintaining exclusive or timed-exclusive content remains important for driving console adoption and market differentiation.
