This beefy 850W Asus ROG Strix 80+ Platinum PSU is a third off from Amazon
Asus’ ROG Strix 850W 80+ Platinum power supply is currently on sale at Amazon UK for £120, representing a 33% discount from its £180 recommended retail price. This marks the lowest price the unit has ever reached according to price tracking data.
The deal is noteworthy because 80+ Platinum-rated PSUs typically command premium pricing in the market. At this price point, consumers would normally expect to find 80+ Gold-rated units instead. The Platinum certification indicates superior efficiency compared to Gold-rated alternatives, though the real-world performance benefit varies depending on usage patterns and system configuration.
The sale represents a reduction in what’s commonly referred to as the “ROG tax”—the price premium that Asus charges for its gaming-focused ROG brand components. While ROG products are often priced higher than competitors, this discount brings the high-efficiency power supply into more competitive territory for budget-conscious PC builders and enthusiasts looking to upgrade their systems with reliable, efficient power delivery.
