Epic Games commits to “immediate self-service refunds” for D4vd cosmetics after murder charge, but not to removing them entirely

Singer D4vd (David Anthony Burke) was charged with first-degree murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, along with charges of sexual abuse of a child and possession of child pornography. He has pleaded not guilty. According to charges, he killed the victim after she threatened to report their sexual relationship.

In response, Epic Games announced it will provide “immediate self-service refunds” for all Fortnite cosmetics and music tracks related to D4vd. The self-service refund option will become available on April 28, 2026, allowing any player who purchased these items to request a refund directly. Players can also request refunds now through Fortnite’s player support channels, with Epic confirming that refunds are already being processed for requests dating back to September 2025.

However, Epic Games did not announce plans to remove the D4vd cosmetics entirely from Fortnite. The items and associated music tracks will remain available for purchase in the game, and players who obtained them through non-purchase means cannot delete them.

Epic characterized the refund policy as the first step, stating it has “a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time,” suggesting additional actions may follow. The company acknowledged concerns with a brief statement but provided no further details about forthcoming measures.
