New Morrowind mod not only adds Sekiro parry, it quietly overhauls the RPG’s most controversial mechanic

A new mod for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind called N’Garde aims to overhaul the game’s notoriously poor combat system. Built for the OpenMW source port, the mod introduces Sekiro-style perfect block parry mechanics alongside a comprehensive rework of Morrowind’s controversial percent-chance-to-hit system—a core mechanic long criticized for making combat feel unsatisfying and unpredictable.

Created by MrArrean, N’Garde is described as answering the question “What if Bethesda had another year or two to let Morrowind cook?” with a stated goal of delivering “more difficult, but more rewarding melee combat.” By combining the parry mechanic with an overhaul of the hit chance system, the mod attempts to replace invisible dice rolls with more skill-based, responsive combat encounters.

The use of the OpenMW source port is significant for game preservation, as it allows the modding community to improve and maintain the 2002 classic on modern systems without reliance on the original proprietary engine. This represents an important evolution in how aging games can remain relevant and enjoyable for both longtime fans and new players discovering the title.
