Feature: Is Starfield’s Crashing Finally Fixed on PS5?

Starfield, which launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023, has finally arrived on PlayStation 5, but the port has been plagued with widespread crashing issues. While not every player has experienced problems, reports of crashes have been numerous enough that developer Bethesda felt compelled to address them through hotfix updates.

The studio has released two targeted patches to combat PS5-specific crashing. The first update arrived approximately one week after the console’s launch, followed by a second patch in the week prior to publication. Despite these efforts, Bethesda’s wording regarding the second update suggests the developer may have concluded its dedicated focus on fixing PS5-specific crashing issues.

Push Square tested Starfield following the latest patches to evaluate whether the crashing problems have been adequately resolved, reflecting the ongoing challenges developers face when porting games to new platforms, particularly when significant time has elapsed since the original release.
