Valve Says It’s ‘Hard at Work’ on Steam Deck 2, but There’s Still No Release Window

Valve continues advancing its gaming hardware lineup while navigating supply chain challenges. The company is actively developing Steam Deck 2, though no release timeline has been announced. According to Valve programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais, the company is ensuring that Steam Deck 2 represents “a worthwhile enough performance upgrade to make sense as a standalone product,” indicating a deliberate approach to the handheld’s next iteration.

Valve has confirmed pricing and a release date for the Steam Controller, one of three devices announced in November 2025 alongside the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. The Steam Machine, designed to bring the Steam ecosystem into living rooms, originally targeted a Q1 2026 release at under $800. However, an AI-driven RAM crisis forced Valve to delay the device in February, with supply chain constraints cited as the primary obstacle.

In recent interviews, Griffais clarified that the Steam Machine’s release hinges entirely on logistics and supply availability rather than development issues. The company is working to determine final pricing as component costs have shifted. Griffais indicated the launch is “close,” though an exact timeline remains uncertain. Valve’s cautious approach reflects the broader challenge hardware manufacturers face in balancing pricing, supply constraints, and product availability in an increasingly complex component market.
