You’ll reportedly be able to enjoy The Super Mario Galaxy Movie from home next week

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be available for digital purchase on May 5, 2026, according to reports from When to Stream. This marks a relatively quick transition to home viewing, coming just five weeks after the film’s theatrical debut on April 1, 2026.

Universal Pictures and Nintendo have not yet officially confirmed the release date, though When to Stream has established a track record of accuracy with VOD release announcements. The May 5 date falls within Universal’s newly implemented five-week theatrical exclusivity window, which will extend to seven weeks beginning in 2027. For comparison, the previous film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, remained in exclusive theatrical release for six weeks.

It’s important to note that the May 5 release pertains to digital purchase and rental options through premium video-on-demand platforms, not subscription streaming services like Netflix, which will arrive at a later date.

The film is directed by Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath, known for Teen Titans Go!, and serves as a sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The movie adapts Nintendo’s 2007 video game of the same name and features an ensemble voice cast including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina.
