Hiring has begun for a new sequel, Tera 2, as Krafton eyes Unreal Engine 5 to secure a potential MMORPG hit
Krafton has announced the development of Tera 2, a sequel to the action-oriented MMORPG that originally shut down its servers in 2022. Through its subsidiary Bluehole Studio, the company has begun hiring for key development positions, including senior client programmer and client programmer lead roles. The appearance of these job postings on Krafton’s careers website indicates that the project has progressed beyond initial design phases and is moving into active development.
The sequel will be built on Unreal Engine 5 and will maintain the original game’s signature action-focused gameplay. Despite Krafton’s CEO previously positioning the company as “AI-first,” there is no mention of generative AI integration in the published job postings for Tera 2. The original Tera became notable in the MMORPG space for its real-time action combat system, a feature the new sequel aims to preserve.
This announcement represents a significant revival of the Tera franchise after its shutdown, with the new iteration built on modern technology while staying true to the core gameplay that defined the original.
