Wuchang: Fallen Feathers might have a future, with western publisher swooping in to buy rights after its dev was shut down

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a popular Chinese Soulslike that launched in July 2025, has secured its future through an IP acquisition by Italian publisher and developer Digital Bros. The deal, valued at approximately €4 million (USD 4.5–4.7 million), comes following the unexpected closure of the game’s original developer, Chengdu Lingzee Technology Co. Ltd.

Following its successful initial launch, the game faced uncertainty after Chengdu Lingzee’s development team was dissolved, with the departure of the game director marking a pivotal moment for the studio’s fate. This left the future of the Soulslike in question, as the loss of the development team typically signals the end of post-launch support and sequel prospects.

Digital Bros’ acquisition of the intellectual property rights signals renewed hope for the franchise. In announcing the purchase, the publisher stated that “securing the IP will enhance the Group’s ability to make timely decisions regarding its future development and related investments,” suggesting active plans to continue supporting or expanding the game. This move represents a Western publisher’s confidence in the title’s commercial viability and player base, despite the challenges that led to its original developer’s closure.

The acquisition exemplifies how successful indie titles can find new life through publisher consolidation, even after devastating setbacks. While details regarding Digital Bros’ specific plans for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers remain undisclosed, the transaction indicates the title will not fade into obscurity, offering reassurance to its dedicated player community.
