A new game in The Division series just shadowdropped on PC, and it’s free
The Division Resurgence, a free-to-play mobile third-person shooter spin-off of Ubisoft’s The Division franchise, has unexpectedly launched on PC in early access. The game, announced in 2022 and released on iOS and Android on March 31, appeared on PC with minimal announcement and no prior indication it was coming to the platform.
According to Ubisoft, the quiet release is intentional, as the PC version is currently “for technical testing ahead of its official launch in August.” This early access approach allows PC players to participate in development while the team prepares for a full launch. The decision to test on PC before an official release suggests Ubisoft aims to gather feedback and identify technical issues before the game’s proper platform debut.
The surprise PC launch stands out because there had been no previous suggestion that the game would come to the platform at all. The Division Resurgence was positioned exclusively as a mobile title throughout its announcement and development, making the PC release a significant and unexpected expansion of its planned scope.
As a free-to-play title, the game demonstrates Ubisoft’s continued investment in live-service gaming and efforts to extend The Division franchise across multiple platforms and markets. The PC early access launch broadens the game’s reach while allowing the community to contribute to its technical refinement ahead of the official August launch on that platform.
