Guild Wars Reforged Will Be Free On Mobile, With A Catch
ArenaNet’s Guild Wars Reforged, a quasi-remaster of the studio’s classic 2005 MMORPG, is expanding to mobile platforms this summer. The free-to-play version will launch globally on iOS and Android devices, making the game accessible to a broader audience beyond PC players.
The mobile version will include the game’s original Prophecies campaign at no cost, allowing new players to experience the foundational story. However, the free experience comes with a significant catch: the Prophecies campaign will feature advertisements throughout gameplay.
To unlock additional campaigns and remove ads entirely, players will need to make purchases on the PC version. ArenaNet will offer each campaign as a separate $7 purchase on PC, with expansions and bonus mission packs priced at $10. This cross-platform monetization structure means that mobile players cannot access premium content or an ad-free experience solely through the mobile application.
The strategy represents a hybrid freemium model designed to attract new players with free access while encouraging investment in the PC version for the complete experience. For existing PC players who already own the game, the mobile version provides convenient access to at least the Prophecies campaign on-the-go, though ads will persist unless additional content is purchased.
The summer 2026 release will expand Guild Wars Reforged’s reach to mobile audiences while maintaining PC as the platform required for full monetization and ad-free gameplay.
