Disney Lorcana’s Pixar set signals a major shift in how the game is played

Disney Lorcana’s upcoming Wilds Unknown set represents a significant gameplay shift for the collectible card game. Launching in May 2026, the set introduces Pixar characters to the game for the first time, featuring properties like Toy Story, Brave, and The Incredibles prominently throughout the expansion.

The most notable change is the increased focus on typal strategies in card design. Since Lorcana’s debut in 2023, character cards have included various subtypes such as “Hero,” “Princess,” and “Villain,” but these classifications have largely remained cosmetic. The Wilds Unknown set marks a turning point where these subtypes become mechanically relevant, encouraging players to build decks around specific character types rather than treating them as incidental attributes.

Based on opening 38 packs from various product formats including a booster display box and the new prerelease box, the set appears to deliver substantial Pixar representation, suggesting that IP integration and mechanical themes are being used to attract both longtime players and fans of these beloved franchises.
