Mass Effect: Andromeda Was “Done Dirty” By EA And Punching Bag For “Chuds,” Actor Says
Actor Tom Taylorson, who voiced Scott Ryder in Mass Effect: Andromeda, has shared candid reflections on his experience with the game. Despite having what he described as an “immense amount of fun” during development and calling it “hands down one of the best things I’ve ever worked on,” Taylorson criticized how the game was ultimately handled.
Taylorson blamed Electronic Arts (EA) for doing the game “dirty,” stating that the publisher’s unrealistic expectations and rushed timeline negatively impacted the final product. He indicated that the game was not “fully cooked” when released, having been “forced out the door early.” Taylorson also noted that developers were pressured to use EA’s technology and systems, though his statement was cut off mid-explanation.
The actor acknowledged that Andromeda received unfair criticism online, characterizing some of the game’s harshest critics as engaging in disproportionate attacks. This suggests he views certain criticism as bad-faith, while still acknowledging legitimate concerns about its incomplete state at launch.
Taylorson’s comments add perspective to the long-standing discourse around Andromeda’s troubled 2017 launch, which faced significant backlash over technical issues, animation quality, and narrative problems. His remarks highlight the gap between developer intent and the final product, placing substantial blame on publisher pressure and rushed development rather than the creative team’s capabilities.
