Nacon’s RPG Studio Seemingly Shutting Down Following Financial Troubles
French game developer Spiders, owned by publisher Nacon, is set to close its doors following the publisher’s financial troubles. According to reports from French outlet Origami, the studio will enter judicial liquidation on April 29, 2026, after Nacon failed to find a buyer for the subsidiary.
Spiders, founded in 2008 and based in Paris, is best known for developing the GreedFall series and the Souls-like action RPG Steelrising. The studio has produced numerous action-RPG titles over its 18-year history.
The closure follows Nacon’s insolvency filing in February 2026, which triggered significant financial restructuring at the publisher. Despite efforts to find a buyer for the studio, court-appointed administrators determined that liquidation was necessary. Sources close to the matter described the liquidation process as a “mere formality at this stage.”
The timing adds to the studio’s challenges: GreedFall: The Dying World, the latest entry in the franchise, launched just last month. Spiders had also experienced substantial layoffs in the previous year. Staff have now been instructed to update their CVs and engage in self-study sessions as the closure process proceeds.
