Xbox Continues To ‘Actively Investigate’ Issue With Backwards Compatible 360 Titles

Xbox players attempting to play backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles on Xbox Series X are currently unable to access Xbox Live, experiencing sign-in errors that affect the entire library of supported games rather than isolated titles. The issue has generated significant discussion on Reddit’s Xbox Support community, with over 250 comments detailing user experiences and support responses.

Xbox support indicated the matter was being treated as a priority around April 21st, with Microsoft officially confirming on April 22nd that the issue was under “active investigation.” As of late April, the problem persists despite ongoing investigation efforts.

The backwards compatibility program, launched in 2015, remains one of Xbox’s most valued features, allowing players to maintain access to their original Xbox and Xbox 360 game libraries on current-generation Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Though the initiative entered hiatus in 2021 due to licensing restrictions preventing new title additions, the existing supported catalogue continues to be heavily utilized by the Xbox community. This outage highlights ongoing technical challenges Microsoft faces maintaining compatibility infrastructure across multiple console generations.
