Cache Returns to Counter-Strike in Latest Patch

Cache, the popular competitive map, has officially returned to Counter-Strike 2 following the latest patch update. The map is now playable across multiple game modes including Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes.

The return of Cache marked the completion of a significant development effort by Valve. Originally created by community mapmaker Shawn ‘FMPONE’ Snelling as a custom map in March 2025, Valve acquired the map in May 2025 and invested approximately a year of development work to integrate it into Counter-Strike 2’s engine and design standards.

The reimplementation of Cache features notable visual changes from the original map, with updated color tones that align with Counter-Strike 2’s visual direction. The map’s return was anticipated by the competitive community following promotional teasers from Valve, though the specific changes and aesthetic updates remained unannounced until the patch release.

In addition to Cache’s debut, the latest patch also included adjustments to the X-box area on Dust 2, another staple competitive map. The update represents Valve’s continued investment in map design and balancing for the competitive Counter-Strike ecosystem.
