Namco’s Japan-only 1994 arcade game Cyber Commando is getting a home release for the first time

Hamster Corporation is bringing the classic Namco arcade game Cyber Commando to home systems for the first time. Originally released exclusively in Japanese arcades in 1994, Cyber Commando is a vehicle combat sequel to Cyber Sled built on Namco’s System 22 arcade hardware—the same platform that powered several early polygonal arcade titles from the early 1990s.

This release continues Hamster Corporation’s systematic archival of Namco’s System 22 library. The studio has steadily released these classic arcade games to modern platforms through its Arcade Archives series, recently bringing titles like the original Ridge Racer, Air Combat 22, Aqua Jet, Tokyo Wars, and Rave Racer to players worldwide.

Cyber Commando’s home release represents a significant milestone in game preservation. The game had remained exclusive to Japanese arcades for over three decades, leaving players outside Japan with no legitimate way to experience it. This release provides the first opportunity for international audiences and collectors to play the arcade version on a home platform.

Hamster Corporation has become a leading force in video game preservation through its comprehensive archival work. The studio operates multiple series including Arcade Archives, Console Archives, and ACA Neo Geo, focused on bringing forgotten titles from different platforms and eras to modern audiences. By methodically releasing these historical games, Hamster helps ensure that classic arcade experiences remain accessible for both nostalgic players and new generations discovering gaming history.
