Mewgenics’ biggest patch yet is on the way with a huge balance overhaul, changes to the breeding system, and ‘Hitler’s suicide can no longer miss’, which is a relief
Mewgenics, a turn-based strategy game centered around cat breeding and management, is receiving its largest update yet with the upcoming 1.1 patch. The update addresses long-standing balance issues and introduces significant mechanical changes across the game’s systems.
The patch tackles known problems with class balance, with some classes previously underperforming compared to others. Additionally, random events that had outsized negative impact on player runs are being adjusted. The breeding system itself is undergoing modifications, including changes that make it harder to breed cats without birth defects.
Specific mechanical adjustments include buffs to certain abilities—such as the Tank class’s “Ass Blast” move, which now has an increased blast radius. Boss encounters are also being rebalanced, with Hitler 2’s suicide attack now guaranteed to hit. Separately, the cost of building nukes in-game is being reduced. The patch notes have drawn attention for their unhinged and humorous tone, even as they address serious gameplay concerns.
The game has been well-received, earning a 92% score in PC Gamer’s review, with praise for its emergent storytelling, chaotic build-crafting, and overall depth. While an official release date for the 1.1 patch hasn’t been announced, the update is already available on some branches for testing.
