GreedFall: The Dying World studio Spiders is reportedly closing its doors after parent company Nacon failed to find a buyer

Spiders, the Paris-based video game developer behind the GreedFall and Steelrising franchises, has officially shut down. The studio announced its closure after receiving confirmation that it is being liquidated, with all operations ceasing immediately. This marks the first official casualty of parent company Nacon’s financial collapse.

The shutdown follows Nacon’s filing for insolvency in February 2026, triggered when its majority shareholder Bigben Interactive failed to meet financial obligations and was unable to make a partial bond loan repayment. Nacon had initially attempted to secure a buyer for Spiders, but these efforts proved unsuccessful, leaving liquidation as the only option.

The timing is particularly unfortunate, as Spiders had released GreedFall: The Dying World from early access just weeks before the closure announcement. The studio, which has been operating since 2008, carved a niche in the mid-budget “AA” RPG space and was well-regarded for its narrative-driven titles, including Steelrising and The Technomancer.

In its closure statement, Spiders apologized to players for the prolonged silence regarding its future status and thanked supporters for their years of backing. The studio indicated that planned DLC for GreedFall: The Dying World will proceed through Nacon, though Spiders will no longer provide customer support. This closure underscores the broader financial pressures affecting mid-size game developers outside major publishing conglomerates.
