Splatoon Raiders preorders for the Switch 2 are nearly 20 percent off

Nintendo has introduced a new pricing strategy for Nintendo Switch 2 digital games, reducing the cost of first-party exclusive titles by $10 from the traditional $59.99 price point. This policy represents a significant shift in Nintendo’s approach to digital game pricing for its latest hardware generation.

Splatoon Raiders, an upcoming spinoff in the Splatoon franchise, exemplifies this new pricing structure. The game launches on July 23rd with a digital price of $49.99, undercutting the standard physical edition’s $59.99 retail price. Notably, Walmart is offering a partial exception to typical retail pricing, with physical cartridge preorders available at $49.94—only four cents cheaper than the digital version.

Unlike a direct sequel to Splatoon 3, Splatoon Raiders is positioned as a spinoff that preserves the franchise’s core third-person, paint-splatting gameplay mechanics while introducing new locations and environments. The title is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, making it among the first games to benefit from Nintendo’s revised digital pricing initiative.

This pricing approach appears strategically designed to make digital versions substantially more attractive compared to physical cartridge editions, while minimal price differences at major retailers suggest the retail landscape is adapting to Nintendo’s new digital-first strategy on its latest platform.
