From the co-creator of Celeste comes City of None, a metroidvania about a wooden adventurer in a dying metropolis

EXOK Games has announced it will publish City of None, a metroidvania developed by Noel Berry and his brother Liam Berry. Noel is best known as co-creator of the acclaimed platformer Celeste. The game features lush pixel art and a darker, more atmospheric narrative compared to Berry’s previous work.

Set in a crumbling metropolis, City of None follows a spirit inhabiting a wooden body, left to decay in the wild as powerful barons exploit resources and souls in a world descending into ruin. The metroidvania structure suggests exploration-based gameplay with interconnected level design and ability progression mechanics that unlock access to previously unreachable areas.

While Extremely OK Games as a studio has not yet announced its next major project following Celeste, this publishing move demonstrates continued support for independent game development. The Berry brothers’ vision for City of None emphasizes atmospheric world-building and darker themes, differentiating it from Celeste’s more uplifting platforming experience.
