Dark And Darker Can “Move Ahead With Full Legal Certainty” After Court Ruling

Dark and Darker developer Ironmace has secured a major legal victory, with South Korea’s Supreme Court upholding a lower court ruling in the long-running copyright dispute with Nexon. The decision dismisses appeals from both parties, providing what Ironmace describes as “full legal certainty” to continue development of the game.

The dispute stems from Ironmace’s founding by former Nexon employees. Nexon accused the studio of stealing trade secrets related to an internal project codenamed “P3” to create Dark and Darker. Ironmace has consistently maintained that it did not use any stolen Nexon assets or code during the game’s development, and the court’s decision validates this position.

The ruling represents a significant milestone in what has been a years-long legal battle between the two companies. The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the lower court’s ruling and dismiss both appeals provides clarity for Ironmace to move forward with the game’s development without the legal uncertainty that has characterized the past period.
