Final Fantasy 14 Director Confirms Nintendo Switch 2 Performance and Mouse-Keyboard Controls
Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in August 2026, as confirmed by director and producer Naoki Yoshida at Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2026. The MMORPG will feature a separate subscription model specifically for the Switch 2 version.
The Switch 2 port will support multiple control options, including traditional mouse and keyboard controls as well as Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, allowing players to mix their control styles depending on their preferred playstyle. The game will target 30 frames per second on the hardware.
Yoshida acknowledged during an interview that while mouse controls will be available for players who prefer that input method, he personally has not extensively tested high-level raid content with mouse controls. He indicated that the Quality Assurance team will thoroughly verify mouse control functionality, though he personally plans to play the Switch 2 version using a controller, which will also be fully supported.
The announcement represents a significant expansion for the long-running MMORPG, bringing it to Nintendo’s next-generation portable hardware for the first time.
