PlayStation 5 players are now getting more from this Xbox first-party game than Xbox owners
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, a first-party Xbox title, has received PlayStation VR2 support for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro as of April 30, 2026. This addition allows PlayStation VR2 users to experience the flight simulation in full virtual reality, a feature that remains unavailable to Xbox console players.
The move represents an interesting reversal in exclusivity dynamics. While the simulator is developed by Asobo Studio and published by Xbox Game Studios, PlayStation players now have access to a premium VR experience that their Xbox counterparts do not. This means players with PlayStation VR2 headsets can enjoy enhanced immersion and gameplay options compared to traditional console play, giving Sony platform holders an advantage in experiencing this particular first-party Microsoft title.
The situation underscores the evolving landscape of cross-platform game development and feature distribution. Despite Microsoft’s ownership of the franchise and publishing role through Xbox Game Studios, platform-specific capabilities—in this case, VR hardware availability—determine which players can access certain experiences. Xbox Series X|S users are limited to non-VR gameplay, while PlayStation 5 and 5 Pro owners can leverage their console’s VR capabilities to access a more immersive version of the game.
