Two computer giants of the 80s - the Spectrum and C64 - are being turned into pocket-sized handhelds by the makers of Evercade
Blaze Entertainment, the company behind Evercade, has announced pocket-sized handheld versions of two iconic 1980s home computers: the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. The devices, called The Spectrum Handheld and The C64 Handheld, feature a clamshell design and will launch in October 2026.
Each handheld comes pre-loaded with 25 retro games specific to each system, with the ability to expand the game library via microSD card. The devices feature a 4.3-inch screen and measure approximately 136mm in width. For players seeking a more traditional computing experience, both handhelds can be connected to a keyboard and joystick via USB, allowing them to function as desktop systems.
The handhelds are priced at £109.99 / $129.99 for standard editions. Collector’s editions are available at £129.99 / $149.99 through Funstock, which include a hard shell carry case and curated editions of Crash and Zzap magazines—classic publications that reviewed games for these original 1980s systems.
The project is a collaboration between Blaze Entertainment and Retro Games Ltd, a company specializing in modern recreations of classic home computers including the Amiga and Atari 400. This announcement represents the latest nostalgic revival of retro gaming hardware, transforming computers originally designed for home productivity into portable entertainment devices.
