‘The company as a whole no longer exists:’ GreedFall developer Spiders confirms closure

French game developer Spiders, known for creating GreedFall and The Technomancer, has been liquidated following its parent company Nacon’s financial collapse. Nacon filed for insolvency earlier this year after failing to repay a bond loan. Under French law, the insolvency process would have frozen liabilities and allowed up to 18 months for the company to restructure its debt and implement a recovery plan. However, Spiders has now been confirmed for liquidation instead of pursuing restructuring.

The closure affects 71 workers at the Paris-based studio. The French game industry union Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) has issued a strongly-worded statement claiming that the liquidation represents “a premeditated and deliberate choice by Nacon’s management” rather than an inevitable outcome of financial necessity. The union characterizes the decision as driven by “incompetence and malice,” arguing that workers will lose their jobs, careers, and income as a result. In response, the STJV has called for a boycott of Nacon and its properties.

The liquidation marks the end of a studio that had established itself with multiple released titles, though any ongoing projects—including Greedfall 2—are now in jeopardy. The circumstances have raised industry questions about corporate decision-making during financial distress and worker treatment.
