Krafton’s removal from Subnautica 2 Steam page “blown up a little bigger than it was meant to”, as developers emphasise continued co-publishing support
Subnautica 2’s removal of publisher Krafton from the game’s Steam page may have been a minor edit that garnered more attention than intended, according to Unknown Worlds. The developer has clarified that Krafton remains an active co-publisher of the sequel, and the Steam page change does not signal any change in their publishing arrangement.
Design lead Anthony Gallegos explained to Eurogamer that Krafton’s absence from the storefront listing is not reflective of their relationship. “We’re co-publishing the game with Krafton, so they’re not not the publisher anymore,” he stated, emphasizing the partnership remains intact. Creative media producer Scott MacDonald suggested the modification may have been “blown up a little bigger than it was meant to.”
The Steam page change sparked confusion in the gaming community, with some interpreting the removal as a potential split between the developer and publisher. However, Unknown Worlds’ statement makes clear that Krafton continues in its co-publishing role as development progresses on the highly anticipated underwater exploration sequel. The clarification underscores that the partnership between the studio and publisher remains stable.
