Fortnite fans upset as game hides D4vd emotes under a setting

Following criminal charges against David “D4vd” Burke, the artist behind Fortnite’s official anthem, Epic Games has implemented changes to how players encounter related in-game content. After initially offering refunds for D4vd cosmetics and music, the developer took a broader approach with an April 30 update.

The update modified Fortnite’s “See Confrontational Emotes” setting to include two additional music emotes featuring D4vd’s work: Feel It and Trophy Drop. Previously, this setting only filtered four existing emotes—Laugh It Up, Take the L, Whipcrack, and Make It Plantain. By default, the setting is enabled for all players, meaning the D4vd emotes are hidden unless users manually change their settings to display them.

The content remains fully in the game and is not being permanently removed. Players who own the emotes can still use them if they choose to enable visibility. This represents a middle-ground solution following community calls for Epic Games to address Burke’s content. The approach allows the publisher to retain the cosmetics while reducing their prominence and giving players granular control over whether they see them.
