Yup, Oblivion Remastered Is Still Broken a Year After Release

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, released in April 2025, continues to suffer from significant technical issues more than a year after its launch. Despite initially receiving positive reviews on the Xbox Store, the game remains plagued by performance problems that have persisted since its release.

According to Digital Foundry’s analysis, the game experiences widespread technical difficulties across all platforms, including stuttering and hitching during gameplay, frequent crashes, frame-rate instability, and degrading performance that worsens the longer players engage with the game. The issues are severe enough to impact core gameplay experiences, with reports of sub-60 frames per second during open-world exploration and inconsistent 30 fps performance on quality settings.

The situation is exacerbated by Bethesda’s minimal post-launch support. The game has not received a major patch on PC since the 1.2 update in July 2025—just three months after release. This short support window effectively abandoned the game, leaving users with no path to resolution for the technical problems that plague the current player experience.

While the game has maintained generally positive user reviews, the technical analysis reveals a stark disconnect between critical reception and actual performance stability. The lack of ongoing development and patching suggests the remaster is unlikely to see improvements in the near future, making it difficult for players to overlook the troubling conditions that can accompany extended play sessions.
