Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 developer won’t confirm whether it’s working on a Lord of the Rings game, but has said whatever comes next, it will be “an RPG true to our colours”
Warhorse Studios, the Czech developer behind the successful Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, has neither confirmed nor denied rumors that it is developing a Lord of the Rings game. The speculation began in March 2026 when reports emerged suggesting the studio was working on a game set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe.
During a recent Reddit AMA, when asked directly about the Lord of the Rings rumors, Warhorse declined to provide specifics about its future projects, stating: “We cannot really disclose our future plans :) But we are staying in RPG genre!” This carefully worded response suggests the studio remains committed to role-playing games for its next project.
Content director Ondrej Bittner offered slightly more information without confirming the Lord of the Rings connection, describing the upcoming game as “a huge, immersive RPG.” This characterization aligns with Warhorse’s reputation for crafting deep, story-driven experiences as demonstrated by the Kingdom Come franchise’s critical and commercial success.
While refusing official confirmation, Warhorse’s cautious responses—neither flatly denying the rumor nor confirming it—have fueled fan speculation. Some reports suggest the project may be in development for Embracer Group, the publisher holding Lord of the Rings gaming rights. The developer has maintained strict silence on specifics, emphasizing only their commitment to delivering authentic, immersive RPG experiences.
