Hero shooter Last Flag halts production just 2 weeks after launch, but vows to “make sure that the game doesn’t disappear”

Last Flag, a third-person hero shooter developed by Knight Street Games, is halting post-launch development just two weeks following its April 14 launch on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam. The studio, founded by Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds and his brother Mac Reynolds, announced the decision in a statement posted to Discord and Steam.

Knight Street Games acknowledged that despite intentionally avoiding the live-service free-to-play model that dominates the genre, the game “has been unable to find the audience it needs to give all of you the experience you deserve.” The team stressed that while they “knew that we couldn’t possibly match the pace and scale of the AAA competition,” they remain committed to the project.

The studio emphasized that “Last Flag isn’t going anywhere,” indicating plans to keep the game accessible despite halting active development. A series of pre-planned content updates will continue to roll out in the coming months before post-launch support ends. The team stated it is unable to “support additional development beyond some upcoming patches,” though they are exploring options to ensure the game’s long-term viability.

The capture-the-flag multiplayer experience represents an early struggle in the increasingly competitive hero shooter space, where established franchises dominate player attention and engagement.
