The Outer Worlds will soon be removed from stores — but there’s a catch
The original version of The Outer Worlds is being delisted from digital storefronts on May 27, 2026, but players won’t lose access to the sci-fi RPG entirely. Obsidian Entertainment’s acclaimed game will be removed from PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X platforms, though it will remain available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The delisting comes as The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition—a comprehensive remaster—receives substantial new updates and becomes the primary version available on current-generation platforms. According to a Steam announcement on April 30, the Spacer’s Choice Edition will continue to be sold across all platforms, consolidating the franchise around the enhanced version rather than maintaining multiple releases.
This shift means players on older-generation consoles will be unaffected, but those on PC and latest-generation hardware who wish to play The Outer Worlds after May 27 must purchase the Spacer’s Choice Edition instead. The move represents a strategic consolidation of the game’s presence as Obsidian focuses on the remastered version.
