Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s co-director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that development is progressing strongly, with the director personally completing over 40 full playthroughs of the game. In an interview with Nintendo Life, Hamaguchi stated that Square Enix is “very excited about how the game is currently progressing,” providing one of the first substantive updates on the project in some time.
Despite extensive internal testing, very little has been publicly disclosed about the final installment of the FF7 Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi’s extensive playthrough count suggests the game is in an advanced stage of development, likely nearing completion, though no official release date has been announced. His enthusiasm indicates Square Enix has confidence in the direction and quality of the concluding chapter.
The FF7 Remake project has become one of Square Enix’s flagship endeavors. The original Remake launched on PlayStation 4 in 2020 and later came to PC, while Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second installment, released exclusively on PlayStation 5 in February 2024. The trilogy represents a substantial reimagining of the 1997 original, with each entry significantly expanding the source material and story.
