Spacestation CEO Explains Why They Didn’t Enter the Call of Duty League

Spacestation Gaming clarified why it did not enter the Call of Duty League despite rumors last year suggesting it would join the competitive vertical. The decision came as several major esports organizations—Team Falcons, Cloud9, G2, and Gentle Mates—successfully secured league positions.

In a social media statement, Spacestation Gaming CEO Shawn Pellerin explained the organization’s reasoning. According to Pellerin, after analyzing the underlying economics of joining the league, the licensing cost structure proved prohibitive. The excerpt of his statement indicates that the license, which would be transferred to Spacestation at a cost, presented a significant financial barrier to entry.

The revelation highlights the financial challenges facing esports organizations considering premium competitive league investments. While some teams have committed to these ventures, Spacestation’s decision demonstrates that league entry is not economically feasible for all organizations, regardless of their competitive standing or resources.
