Wolfenstein meets Metroidvania in Wolfhound, an 8-bit ode to yesteryear with zombies and Nazi mechs

Wolfhound is a retro-inspired 8-bit action game from indie developer Bit Kit that fuses Metroidvania exploration with Wolfenstein-style gameplay. The title has generated sustained anticipation, appearing on “most anticipated” lists for both 2025 and 2026.

The game follows Chuck Rosetti, a WWII American captain tasked with investigating a Bermuda island where Nazi forces conduct sinister experiments. Players will combat undead enemies and Nazi-piloted mechanical suits while navigating the island’s environments. The game’s setting and premise evoke the alternate-history action of the original Wolfenstein formula, reimagined through a Metroidvania lens.

While a precise release date remains unannounced, indicators suggest a launch window in late 2025 or early 2026. A recently-previewed build has reinforced expectations, with promising signs for the final product. This represents the second major release from Bit Kit following their debut title.

The combination of classic 8-bit aesthetics, WWII-era Nazi-zombie themes, and mechanical enemy designs positions Wolfhound as an homage to gaming’s retro era while incorporating contemporary action-exploration design, targeting both nostalgic players and fans of genre hybrids.
