The Expanse creators unveiled Han Solo as no one else ever wrote him
Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham, the writing duo known as James S.A. Corey, authored Honor Among Thieves, a single Star Wars novel published in 2014 that became the final release in the pre-Disney Star Wars Legends expanded universe continuity. The book merges traditional Star Wars narrative conventions—featuring familiar characters from the films on a side adventure with new story elements—with the expansive scope and complex storytelling style characteristic of The Expanse series, the duo’s primary project as both novelists and television producers.
As the creators’ only contribution to the Star Wars franchise, Honor Among Thieves showcases how established science fiction writers adapted their distinctive voice to one of entertainment’s most iconic properties during a pivotal moment in its publishing history. The novel exemplifies licensed fiction that maintains franchise identity while bringing fresh creative perspectives.
Franck and Abraham have since focused on other projects, including their current Captive’s War trilogy, another sprawling far-future space opera with considerably different scope and tone from their Star Wars work.
