Surprise: The studio making Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is full of former BioWare devs

LucasFilm Games unveiled Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic at The Game Awards 2025, a spiritual successor to BioWare’s acclaimed Knights of the Old Republic series. The single-player RPG will launch on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5.

The project is led by Casey Hudson, who directed the original Knights of the Old Republic and worked on Mass Effect during his tenure at BioWare, where he also served as general manager. Hudson now leads Arcanaut Studios as CEO and game director, the developer creating Fate of the Old Republic.

Adding to the project’s credibility is Arcanaut’s team composition. A recent update to the studio’s leadership page reveals that the development team is filled with veteran BioWare talent. Many of these developers have direct experience with Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect franchise, which has generated considerable enthusiasm among fans of those beloved franchises.

The announcement underscores the significance of this project for Star Wars gaming. By assembling a team with proven expertise in creating acclaimed RPGs set in expansive universes, Arcanaut appears positioned to deliver an experience that resonates with fans of the original Knights of the Old Republic while introducing the franchise to new audiences.
