Hitman Dev Talks GTA 6 Delay, First Light For Switch 2, And What’s Up With Its Fantasy Game

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has confirmed that the Switch 2 version of 007 First Light will launch, but not on its original May 27, 2026 release date. The title is now targeting a “late summer” release on Nintendo’s console—potentially August or later—as the studio requires additional time to optimize the game for the hardware.

Abrak addressed concerns that First Light could suffer the same fate as Borderlands 4, which was indefinitely delayed following its original October 2025 Switch 2 target date. “I will do everything I can,” Abrak pledged, emphasizing that “Bond has a special place on Nintendo” and that the delay is driven by the studio’s commitment to ensuring the game runs well on the platform rather than any fundamental development issues.

The Switch 2 delay comes as the competitive landscape shifts. Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6, originally scheduled for May 2026, has been pushed to November 2026. Abrak acknowledged that he “would be lying” if he didn’t care about GTA 6 moving its release date further from First Light’s May 27 window on other platforms. The original simultaneous release with Switch 2 would have given the game a clearer launch window before GTA 6’s arrival.

The PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of 007 First Light remain on track for May 27, 2026. IO Interactive continues development on its unannounced fantasy game project, which remains in early stages.
