D&D sci-fi book trilogy Neon Odyssey raises $3.7 million in hours on Kickstarter
Avantris Entertainment, the Dungeons & Dragons actual play group behind the successful 2023 Kickstarter campaign for The Crooked Moon, has announced Neon Odyssey, a space opera trilogy designed for D&D 5e. The campaign describes the project as “Star Wars meets Cowboy Bebop with a coat of synthwave paint,” blending science fiction themes with the aesthetics of synthwave music and visuals.
The Kickstarter campaign launched Tuesday morning and immediately achieved remarkable success. The campaign’s impact was so significant that it reportedly crashed the Kickstarter platform itself. The campaign surpassed its $60,000 funding goal in under 30 minutes and reached $3.68 million within hours, demonstrating exceptional demand from the D&D community. With 29 days remaining in the campaign period, these figures represent extraordinary early momentum.
This success builds on Avantris Entertainment’s previous crowdfunding achievement. In 2023, the group raised $4 million for The Crooked Moon, a folk-horror setting and adventure. The rapid success of Neon Odyssey positions it on track to become one of the largest third-party D&D crowdfunding campaigns ever, reinforcing both the studio’s growing prominence and the strength of demand for premium D&D content created by experienced actual play groups.
