Layoffs at Marvel Snap maker Second Dinner, but work on new game continues

Mobile card game developer Second Dinner has conducted staff layoffs affecting a “relatively small number” of employees. The reductions were confirmed by founder Ben Brode on the Marvel Snap Discord, where he addressed the departing staff and provided reassurance about the company’s future.

Brode emphasized that the departing employees are “talented, wonderful people” and acknowledged the difficulty of the decisions. He characterized the layoffs as hard choices necessary for the company’s sustainability rather than a signal of decline or winding down.

Despite the staff reductions, Second Dinner maintains its commitment to Marvel Snap, its flagship live-service card game. The company confirmed that development roadmaps shared in March remain unchanged and the game continues to receive updates and support from the remaining team.

Simultaneously, the studio is proceeding with work on a new, unannounced mobile free-to-play title. The statement suggests the layoffs represent a cost-management measure designed to preserve the company’s ability to operate and develop new content alongside its existing portfolio.
