Sony expected to pay US customers $7.8m in PlayStation Store settlement
Sony has agreed to pay $7.8 million in refunds to US customers following a lawsuit alleging anticompetitive practices on the PlayStation Store. The class action suit, filed by Saveri Law Firm, claims that Sony Interactive Entertainment violated federal antitrust laws and certain state laws through conduct designed to monopolize the PlayStation digital game market.
Specifically, the lawsuit challenges Sony’s use of game-specific vouchers on the PlayStation Store as an anticompetitive practice. The legal claim suggests this system is “designed to monopolise the PS digital game market.”
The settlement was initially proposed in 2024 but faced legal hurdles, being rejected twice during court consideration. However, a judge has now approved a preliminary reopening of the case, clearing the way for further proceedings. A fairness hearing has been scheduled for October 15, 2026, where the court will evaluate whether the proposed settlement is fair to the affected customers.
