Windrose should no longer threaten to significantly reduce your SSD’s lifespan thanks to a fresh patch
Windrose, a pirate versus environment survival game that entered early access last month, has resolved its problematic SSD usage issues following a patch from developer Kraken Express.
Shortly after launch, Steam users reported that the game was excessively hammering their solid-state drives, raising concerns about accelerated hardware wear. Content creator Pixel Operative investigated the issue by conducting performance tests and comparing Windrose’s read/write activity to similar survival games like Enshrouded and Valheim. Testing revealed that Windrose exhibited significantly larger read/write numbers in less than two minutes of gameplay compared to its peers, highlighting an unusual and concerning performance problem unique to the title.
The excessive SSD activity threatened to shorten the lifespan of players’ storage devices, prompting immediate action from Kraken Express. The developer has now released a patch specifically addressing this issue, bringing the game’s SSD usage in line with expectations for its genre. This fix allows players to enjoy Windrose without worrying about premature hardware degradation, smoothing the game’s progression through early access toward full release.
