In a memo reviewed by multiple outlets, Sharma outlined concerns that Xbox currently struggles to “ship impact quickly,” spends excessive time focused inward rather than engaging the community, and lacks sufficient depth in fundamental technical areas. To address these issues, she is recruiting new leaders with consumer and technical expertise, with a notable emphasis on talent from Microsoft’s CoreAI division.
Key leadership changes include the elevation of Jason Ronald, Xbox’s VP of Next Generation, who is now accountable for Project Helix and overall platform strategy. Jason Beaumont, VP of Xbox Experiences, will assume responsibility for product development and serve as interim head of engineering. These moves complement a series of recent strategic initiatives by Sharma, including Game Pass price reductions, rebranding from Microsoft Gaming back to Xbox, and prioritization of community-requested console features.
Sharma’s stated vision emphasizes building “a platform that is affordable, personal, and open” through closer engagement with players and developers. While the influx of former CoreAI executives prompted some speculation among observers, reporting indicates the reorganization is primarily focused on strengthening Xbox’s technical foundation and operational efficiency rather than signaling any problematic direction.
