Xbox Series X’s 4K Mode Gets Resolution Increase For Gamerpics & Other Artwork
Xbox has announced a resolution improvement for Xbox Series X users running their console in 4K mode. The update, rolling out to Xbox Insiders immediately, increases the resolution of gamerpics and select game or achievement artwork displayed on the system.
According to Xbox engineer Eden Marie, who announced the change on social media, the enhancement applies specifically to content viewed in 4K resolution. Marie characterized the adjustment as a “fix,” suggesting that the absence of higher-resolution assets for these UI elements may have represented a technical oversight rather than an intentional design choice.
The update clarifies that only the resolution of existing images is being adjusted—the artwork itself is not being replaced with entirely new or higher-quality versions. This means the improvement is achieved through optimized scaling of how existing assets are displayed at 4K resolutions, ensuring visual consistency across the interface.
While comparisons demonstrating the improvement were shared on social media, the visual differences remain subtle. The change represents Microsoft’s continued effort to optimize the Xbox Series X experience and ensure all UI elements properly scale for users with 4K-capable displays.
